Autoregressive spectrum-guided variational mode decomposition for time-varying modal identification under nonstationary conditions

Xiao-Jun Yao et al.

Summary: A new modal identification method based on an autoregressive spectrum-guided variational mode decomposition method is proposed for time varying and nonstationary conditions, improving accuracy by determining initial center frequencies, selecting balancing factors, and detecting ridges of time-frequency distributions.

Experimental and numerical studies on the low-frequency responses of a spar-type floating offshore wind turbine

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the nonlinear hydrodynamics responses of a 6 MW spar-type FOWT system designed for a water depth of 100 m, showing that utilizing full Quadratic Transfer Functions (QTF) can greatly improve the prediction accuracy of low-frequency responses. Comparative studies on linear and quadratic damping models calibrated from model tests reveal that the latter is more suitable for implementation in time-domain simulations.

Complex frequency identification using real modal shapes for a structure with proportional damping

Chun-Xu Qu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an innovative method to identify complex frequencies for a structure with proportional damping using real modal shapes. The method considers the complex property of frequencies and uses Hilbert transform and k-means clustering method to estimate the complex frequencies effectively. The results show that the proposed method can be used in practical engineering.

Dynamic Loads and Response of a Spar Buoy Wind Turbine with Pitch-Controlled Rotating Blades: An Experimental Study

Sara Russo et al.

Summary: New large-scale laboratory data on a physical model of a spar buoy wind turbine with pitch control show that waves contribute significantly to model motions and mooring loads, with a significant nonlinear behavior detected. As wave period increases, wind speed has less influence on surge, heave, and pitch, and higher wave steepness leads to decreased oscillations. The experiments emphasize the importance of including pitch-controlled, variable-speed blades in tests on such structures.
