Summary: Genetic variation for resistance to Cryptocaryon irritans in turbot was found to be significant, with heritability estimates ranging from 0.29 to 0.31 using different models. Selective breeding to increase resistance and reduce mortalities due to C. irritans was shown to be a feasible and promising approach, as there was no genetic correlation between resistance to the parasite and survival under rearing conditions.
