Exploration of factors associated with spatial-temporal veterinary surveillance diagnoses of rumen fluke (Calicophoron daubneyi) infections in ruminants using zero-inflated mixed modelling

Summary: This study identified factors associated with the temporal-spatial prevalence of rumen fluke. Climate variables such as summer rainfall, raindays, sunshine hours, and mean winter temperature were found to be significant positively associated with rumen fluke prevalence. Higher cattle/sheep densities and previous rumen fluke case rates were also associated with higher prevalence. Winter temperature and sunshine hours were found to be more important in rumen fluke epidemiology compared to liver fluke.

Summary: This study revealed important molecular mechanisms during Calicophoron daubneyi infection through transcriptome and secretome analysis, including the regulation of virulence factors and immunomodulators at different developmental and migration stages. The secretion of different proteins by C. daubneyi was found to help establish an immune environment conducive to its survival.
