Altered Gut Microbiome under Antiretroviral Therapy: Impact of Efavirenz and Zidovudine

Shilpa Ray et al.

Summary: ART does not reverse the dysbiosis of gut microbiome induced by HIV and may aggravate microbiota alterations due to the antibacterial effect of certain antiretrovirals. Restructuring the microbiota could be a potential therapeutic target in HIV-1 patients under ART.
