Heat wave magnitude over India under changing climate: Projections from CMIP5 and CMIP6 experiments

Jew Das et al.

Summary: The study utilized bias-corrected future projections of maximum temperature (Tmax) from 26 GCMs to investigate the implications of atmospheric warming on future heat wave events in India. The findings suggest that the future Tmax anomaly is likely to increase, leading to more intense, high frequency, and long duration heat wave events over various regions in India. The study emphasizes the importance of adaptation strategies to mitigate the adverse consequences of anticipated heat wave events.

Investigation of association between smoke haze and under-five mortality in Malaysia, accounting for time lag, duration and intensity

Vera Ling Hui Phung et al.

Summary: Background studies have shown an increased interest in the association between smoke haze and adverse health effects, especially on under-five children due to their vulnerable condition. This study aimed to examine this association in Malaysia, considering time lag, duration, and intensity of exposure. Results showed a null association between haze and under-five mortality, with different lag patterns observed over different duration and intensity, suggesting the need for consideration of these aspects in future studies.

Sex-difference in air pollution-related acute circulatory and respiratory mortality and hospitalization

Hwashin H. Shin et al.

Summary: The study found that the effects of ambient air pollution on sex differ based on health outcomes, causes, seasons, and time periods. Consistent trends over 17 years provided stronger evidence of sex differences in hospitalizations, indicating a need for further investigation in other populations.

Children's exposure to air pollution in a natural gas industrial area and their risk of hospital admission for respiratory diseases

Mohd Faiz Ibrahim et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationship between short-term exposure to air pollution and hospital admissions for respiratory diseases among children in a natural gas industrial area in Bintulu, Malaysia. The study found that exposure to PM2.5 and SO2 increased the risk of childhood respiratory disease hospitalizations, particularly in children aged 0-4 years and girls.

The concentration of major air pollutants during the movement control order due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Klang Valley, Malaysia

Mohd Talib Latif et al.

Summary: During the MCO implemented by the Malaysian government, there were significant reductions in air pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, NO2, and CO, with NO2 showing the largest decrease. O-3 concentrations at some stations increased, while NO2 and CO were significantly reduced during peak hours.

The association between temperature and cause-specific mortality in the Klang Valley, Malaysia

Ahmad Norazhar Mohd Yatim et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between daily temperature and mortality in the Klang Valley, Malaysia from 2006 to 2015. The findings showed that extreme high temperatures had a significant impact on individuals with respiratory diseases, the elderly, and women, with heat effects being immediate and cold effects being delayed and lasting longer. Extreme temperatures did not drastically change the temperature-mortality risk estimates before and after adjustments for air pollutants levels.
