PHYLOGENETIC EXPLORATION OF TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINAL PLANTS: A CASE STUDY ON LAMIACEAE

Summary: This study explores and analyzes the medicinal plants of the Lamiaceae family using a phylogenetic approach to predict potential medicinal plants for the future. The results indicate that most of the medicinal plants in the Lamiaceae family show a clustered structure on the phylogenetic tree. Further analysis identifies potential new species with therapeutic compounds. This study highlights the potential of phylogenetic approaches in discovering alternative/complementary medicines.

An Ethnobotanical Study of Medicinal Plants in Mersin (Turkey)

Summary: This study conducted in Mersin province, Turkey, compiled information on 93 plant taxa used for therapeutic purposes by local people. The most important medicinal plants identified were Hypericum perforatum, Cedrus libani, Quercus coccifera, Arum dioscoridis, and Juniperus drupaceae. The study found that traditional folk medicine usage is still common in rural areas of Mersin.
