Towards understanding cork concrete behaviour: Impact of considering cork absorption during mixing process

Ahmed Kamel Tedjditi et al.

Summary: The impact of varying cork absorption levels on cork concrete was examined in this study. The results showed that increasing the level of cork absorption significantly improved the hygrothermal performance of the concrete. The microstructure, porosity, and Interfacial Transition Zone (ITZ) between cork and matrix were also affected by cork absorption.

Experimental and numerical modelling of hygrothermal transfer: Application on building energy performance

Fouad Boukhelf et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the hygrothermal behavior of a building envelope wall made of eco-concrete containing glass powder. The numerical model proved to be able to accurately replicate the wall's hygrothermal behavior. Results showed that rainfall has a significant impact on the material, while solar radiation induces a substantial heat flux at the external border.

Sustainability of biomass-based insulation materials in buildings: Current status in France, end-of-life projections and energy recovery potentials

Christelle Rabbat et al.

Summary: Concerns over climate change have driven the decarbonization of the building sector in France. Currently, insulation in construction primarily uses high-energy consuming mineral and fossil-derived materials, leading to a search for clean and energy-efficient alternatives. Biomass-based insulation materials have been identified as low-embodied energy materials that align with France's transition towards low-carbon buildings. However, research on the durability and end-of-life management of these materials is limited.

Thermal inertia and energy efficiency assessment of Direct Solar Floor system using a switching-linear model

M. H. Benzaama et al.

Summary: This study uses switching linear models to describe the thermal operation relationship of Direct Solar Floor in order to fill the gaps in current physical models and address limitations. By identifying the moment of heating by thermal inertia corresponding to one of the three DSF operation modes, the model can evaluate the time and energy provided by thermal inertia.

Characterisation of thermal energy dynamics of residential buildings with scarce data

Jaume Palmer Real et al.

Summary: Buildings play a significant role in total energy consumption and have the potential to be used as thermal storage capacity for the future energy grid. A data-driven method is proposed to analyze the thermal dynamics of thermostatically controlled buildings with night setback, which can classify buildings based on their thermal response. The method was applied to 39 different Danish residential buildings, showing that the simplified model captures the main processes governing heat transfer.
