Effect of Crumb Rubber, Fly Ash, and Nanosilica on the Properties of Self-Compacting Concrete Using Response Surface Methodology

Nurul Izzati Rahim et al.

Summary: This research investigates the influence of crumb rubber, fly ash, and nanosilica on the workability and mechanical properties of self-compacting concrete. The results show that fly ash and nanosilica enhance the workability and strengths of the composite, while crumb rubber negatively affects the strengths but improves ductility and deformation capacity. Response surface models of the mechanical strengths were developed and validated, providing a scientific basis for optimizing the mix design.

Summary: Cementitious mix with very-low-tricalcium aluminate (C3A) cement as the binder can achieve good mechanical performance and flowability. However, its chloride penetration resistance in marine environment is not as good as moderate-C3A cement. Therefore, the addition of supplementary binders can improve the chloride penetration resistance and mechanical properties of low-tricalcium aluminate cement.

Reactivity of slag in 15 years old self-compacting concrete

Ales Frybort et al.

Summary: This paper summarizes changes in slag microchemical composition and hydration products in Portland cement self-compacting concrete after 15 years of exposure in water under laboratory conditions. The results show a connection between slag content and hydration degree, as well as an inverse relationship between the average values of base-forming oxides ratio and slag content in the mixture. These findings provide valuable information for long-term predictions of slag and other additives in cement concrete, as well as for evaluating slag hydration in historical concrete structures.

Temporal flowability evolution of slag-based self-compacting concrete with recycled concrete aggregate

Summary: The addition of fine recycled concrete aggregate and CEM III/A can improve the initial slump flow and passing ability of concrete, while the addition of natural aggregate and CEM I results in less loss of flowability. The addition of fine recycled concrete aggregate increases viscosity and air content, but the addition of limestone fines 0/0.5 mm can enhance the flowability and strength of concrete. Mixtures with CEM III/A, 50% fine recycled concrete aggregate, and limestone fines 0/0.5 mm show an optimal balance between flowability, compressive strength, and carbon footprints.
