Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of adjunctive periodontal therapy using indocyanine green irradiation on periodontal clinical parameters and glycated hemoglobin in patients with periodontitis and type II diabetes. The results showed that this adjunctive treatment could significantly reduce periodontal parameters and was more effective than traditional treatment in certain aspects.

White Spots Prevalence and Tooth Brush Habits during Orthodontic Treatment

Celjana Toti et al.

Summary: This cross-sectional study evaluated the occurrence of white spots (WS) during orthodontic therapy and its correlation with oral hygiene habits. The results showed a high prevalence of WS lesions, primarily affecting the upper molars and some anterior teeth. Higher frequency of daily tooth brushing was associated with a lower prevalence of WS.

Salivary Metalloproteinase-8 and Metalloproteinase-9 Evaluation in Patients Undergoing Fixed Orthodontic Treatment before and after Periodontal Therapy

Ioana-Andreea Sioustis et al.

Summary: In this study, patients undergoing orthodontic treatment showed a significant increase in BOP, MMP-8, and MMP-9 levels one week after orthodontic appliance placement and a decrease in these parameters one month after periodontal treatment. Statistically significant correlations were found between MMP-8 levels and BOP values at different time points. MMP-8, MMP-9, and BOP could be used as biomarkers to assess the periodontal status of orthodontic patients.

Snehal Dalvi et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) in periodontitis, finding no additional benefit in reducing probing pocket depth and increasing clinical attachment level. Well-designed randomized controlled trials are needed to determine the effectiveness of aPDT.

Summary: The systematic review aimed to evaluate the scientific evidence of adjunctive diode laser treatment to scaling and root planing (SRP) in chronic periodontitis management. The review highlighted discrepancies and inconsistencies in outcomes between laser therapy and SRP alone. More robust methodology and standardization are needed for future research.

LASER in periodontal treatment: is it an effective treatment or science fiction?

Leticia Helena Theodoro et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the use of lasers in periodontal treatment, indicating that diode lasers have additional clinical benefits in non-surgical periodontal therapy, while Er:YAG lasers are the most suitable type of laser. Different types of lasers can be used for tissue vaporization in periodontal surgery, and photobiomodulation therapy also has a positive effect on promoting tissue repair.
