Eugenol mitigated acute lung but not spermatic toxicity of C60 fullerene emulsion in mice

Felipe Gomes Pinheiro et al.

Summary: Exposure to C-60 emulsion deteriorates lung morphofunctional, redox, and inflammatory characteristics, increasing the risk of infertility. Eugenol can avoid these changes, but does not prevent sperm damage.

Combined lethal toxicities of pesticides with similar structures to Caenorhabditis elegans are not necessarily concentration additives

Peng Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mixture toxicity of pesticides with similar chemical structures and found that the interaction types of different types of pesticide mixtures varied, with some showing antagonistic effects and others showing synergistic effects. The structural similarity of pesticides was found to have a quantitative relationship with the toxicity interaction of mixtures, indicating that within a certain range, the structural similarity of the same type of pesticides may exhibit additive action.

Amino Alcohols from Eugenol as Potential Semisynthetic Insecticides: Chemical, Biological, and Computational Insights

Renato B. Pereira et al.

Summary: A series of beta-amino alcohols were synthesized by reacting eugenol epoxide with aliphatic and aromatic amine nucleophiles and evaluated for their insecticidal potential. Three derivatives were identified as the most potent, and further studies suggest they may target acetylcholinesterase and/or insect odorant-binding proteins. Encapsulation assays showed high efficiency for the most active compound, and a thermosensitive formulation was achieved for more efficient compound release at higher temperatures.

Anticancer Properties of Eugenol: A Review

Ali T. Zari et al.

Summary: Eugenol, the principal active component of clove, exhibits anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. It shows promising effects in inducing cell death, cell cycle arrest, and inhibiting migration, metastasis, and angiogenesis in various cancer cell lines. Additionally, when used as an adjunct therapy to conventional chemotherapy, eugenol enhances effectiveness while reducing toxicity, making it a valuable candidate for cancer treatment.

Assessing the combined toxicity of carbamate mixtures as well as organophosphorus mixtures to Caenorhabditis elegans using the locomotion behaviors as endpoints

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the locomotion behavioral toxicities of carbamate pesticides (CMs) and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) on Caenorhabditis elegans, and found that they produce significant inhibitory effects on the locomotion behavior of the nematodes, with OPs showing higher toxicity than CMs. Toxicological interactions in the binary CM and OP mixtures were found to be different from each other, highlighting the importance of examining multiple concentration ratios rather than relying on just one.

Study on the Combined Toxicities and Quantitative Characterization of Toxicity Sensitivities of Three Flavor Chemicals and Their Mixtures to Caenorhabditis elegans

Sheng Lu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that certain flavor chemicals and their mixture rays have high toxicity sensitivities to Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans), which could potentially impact human health. The three flavor chemicals showed significant concentration-response relationships on the lethality of C. elegans, with high toxicity sensitivity. In mixture systems, the toxicity sensitivities of mixture rays with different mixture ratios varied at different exposure volumes, showing complex toxicological interactions.

Protective effect of eugenol on hepatic inflammation and oxidative stress induced by cadmium in male rats

Abhishek Kumar et al.

Summary: The study showed that eugenol has a strong protective effect against liver damage induced by cadmium, including reversing oxidative stress and inflammation. In the experiment, eugenol effectively restored the biochemical alterations caused by Cd.
