Bidentate Lewis bases are preferred for passivation of MAPbI3 surfaces: A time-domain ab initio analysis

Jinlu He et al.

Summary: Chemical passivation is an effective method to inhibit intrinsic defects in perovskite solar cells, with bidentate ligands showing the best performance in separating charges and increasing charge lifetimes. Unlike traditional semiconductors, common defects in metal halide perovskites do not create deep midgap states, but localize electrons and holes around defect sites to enhance electron-hole interaction. Understanding this physical mechanism and principles guiding the choice of passivating molecules can lead to further improvements in the performance of metal halide perovskites in solar energy and optoelectronic applications.

Perovskite solar cells with atomically coherent interlayers on SnO2 electrodes

Hanul Min et al.

Summary: By introducing an interlayer between the electron-transporting and perovskite layers in perovskite solar cells, researchers have successfully enhanced charge extraction and transport from the perovskite, leading to higher power conversion efficiency and fewer interfacial defects. The coherent interlayer allowed the fabrication of devices with a certified efficiency of 25.5%, which maintained about 90% of its initial efficiency even after continuous light exposure for 500 hours. The findings provide guidelines for designing defect-minimizing interfaces in metal halide perovskites and electron-transporting layers.

Enhanced Efficiency and Stability of All-Inorganic CsPbI2Br Perovskite Solar Cells by Organic and Ionic Mixed Passivation

Jian He et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of mixed passivation on all-inorganic perovskite (CsPbI2Br) solar cells for the first time, resulting in improved film quality and energy level alignment. The passivation enhances hole extraction, drives interface electron separation, suppresses charge recombination, and achieves a high open-circuit voltage and fill factor in the devices. Moreover, the treated devices exhibit remarkable long-term stability with minimal efficiency loss after storage in a glove box for over 1000 hours without encapsulation.

Summary: The use of CF3-PEABr surface posttreatment can efficiently repair defects in the perovskite film, suppress nonradiative carrier recombination, and achieve an efficiency of up to 21.3%. By adding the surfactant Triton X-100 to modify the PCBM layer, it is possible to improve the hydrophobic nature properties of the -CF3 functional group and address dewetting issues during PCBM layer deposition. Devices treated with CF3-PEABr exhibit better operational, thermal (85 degrees C), and long-term storage stabilities without the need for encapsulation.
