Ice adhesion of PDMS surfaces with balanced elastic and water-repellent properties

Pablo F. Ibanez-Ibanez et al.

Summary: The study found that surface deformability is more important in reducing ice adhesion for ice phobic materials, while hydrophobicity is more crucial in tensile mode. Additionally, oil infusion can further decrease ice adhesion, leading to the identification of surfaces with super-low ice adhesion.

Ultrasensitive Boron-Nitrogen-Codoped CVD Graphene-Derived NO2 Gas Sensor

Shubhda Srivastava et al.

Summary: Recent trends in 2D materials like graphene focus on the doping of heteroatoms in a hexagonal honeycomb lattice to tailor the desired properties for lightweight atomic thin-layer devices, particularly in gas sensors. In this study, boron- and nitrogen-codoped bilayer graphene was synthesized through low-pressure chemical vapor deposition and demonstrated as an ultrasensitive gas sensor for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) detection. Raman, XPS, and FESEM characterization techniques were used to validate the successful synthesis and doping of the graphene. The gas sensing mechanism was explored through density functional theory calculations, providing new prospects for designing next-generation gas sensing devices.

Enhanced thermal conductivity and isotropy of polymer composites by fabricating3Dnetwork structure from carbon-based materials

Qi Li et al.

Summary: The graphene-based composite with a 3D thermally conductive network, consisting of graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and carbon spheres (CSs), showed enhanced thermal conductivity. The GNPs acted as thermally conductive backbones, while CNTs and CSs helped to reduce aggregation and thermal anisotropy. This 3D nanofiller composite has great potential for heat dissipation applications requiring heat removal in two directions.

Orientation-dependent mechanical response of graphene/BN hybrid nanostructures

Lokanath Patra et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanical properties of graphene and BN heterostructures, finding that the vertical mechanical response is influenced by interlayer strength, while the horizontal mechanical response depends mainly on intra-layer interactions. Regardless of stacking patterns, the BN monolayer is predicted to fracture before graphene, confirming the mechanical strength of graphene.
