Limiting steps and the contribution of alternative electron flow pathways in the recovery of the photosynthetic functions after freezing-induced desiccation of Haberlea rhodopensis

K. Georgieva et al.

Summary: It is found that alternative cyclic electron pathways play an important protective role during rehydration of desiccated leaves in Haberlea rhodopensis Friv., with the NDH-dependent pathway being crucial for the recovery of PSI.

Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of thylakoid complexes separated by Blue Native PAGE

Eva Sarvari et al.

Summary: In this study, the Blue/Clear-Native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (BN PAGE) method was improved by using a detergent mixture of 1% (w/V) n-dodecyl-beta-d-maltoside plus 1% (w/V) digitonin for solubilisation and 4.3-8% gel gradients for separation. Several large photosystem (PS) I containing bands were detected, and it was found that these bands were PSI-NADH dehydrogenase-like megacomplexes in maize bundle sheath thylakoids and PSI complexes with different light-harvesting complex (LHC) complements (PSI-LHCII, PSI-LHCII*) in mesophyll thylakoids of lincomycin treated maize. Proposed methods for quantitative determination and comparison of the complexes in different samples were also provided.

Different impact of high light on the response and recovery of wild type and lut2 mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana at low temperature

Maya Velitchkova et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of high light at low temperature on Arabidopsis thaliana plants, with the mutant lut2 showing greater sensitivity but higher ability to restore photosynthetic activity during the recovery period. The analysis revealed changes in photosystems I and II antenna size and highlighted the importance of carotenoid composition in plant protection against high light exposure.
