Nitric Oxide Enhances Salt Tolerance in Tomato Seedlings by Regulating Endogenous S-nitrosylation Levels

Chunlei Wang et al.

Summary: Salinity negatively affects plant growth and development, but nitric oxide (NO) can enhance salt tolerance and promote growth. In tomato seedlings, pretreatment with nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) alleviated salt toxicity, while NO scavenger reversed the positive effect of NO. Additionally, NaCl + GSNO treatment increased antioxidant capacity and enhanced salt tolerance through S-nitrosylation.

Cross Talk Between Cyclic Nucleotides and Calcium Signaling Pathways in Plants-Achievements and Prospects

Brygida Swiezawska-Boniecka et al.

Summary: Plant cellular activities are regulated by mechanisms controlling the level of signal molecules and calcium ions. Studies have shown that while cNMPs and Ca2(+) can act independently, they can also interact and function together. Maintaining a balance between Ca2(+) and cNMP is crucial for cellular homeostasis.

Effects of Exogenous Calcium on Adaptive Growth, Photosynthesis, Ion Homeostasis and Phenolics of Gleditsia sinensis Lam. Plants under Salt Stress

Yun Guo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the addition of 10 mmol/L exogenous calcium chloride had a positive effect on the growth and photosynthetic characteristics of G. sinensis under salt stress. Additionally, the exogenous calcium attenuated the cytotoxicity caused by Na+ under salt stress and promoted the equilibrium of ion homeostasis. The addition of exogenous calcium ions was beneficial for the survival of G. sinensis plants on salinized land and the increase of effective active ingredient content, including phenolic compounds, which is crucial for addressing environmental issues such as desertification of saline-alkali land.

The protein kinase CPK28 phosphorylates ascorbate peroxidase and enhances thermotolerance in tomato

Zhangjian Hu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that CPK28 targets APX2 to regulate plant thermotolerance, with mutations in APX2 increasing plant sensitivity to high temperatures. CPK28 phosphorylates APX2 protein to improve thermotolerance, suggesting a potential mechanism for enhancing crop cultivars' heat stress resistance in changing climates.
