The results showed that both aqueous and hydroalcoholic extracts exhibited high antioxidant and antibacterial activities, with different optimal extraction conditions.

On the other hand, hydroethanolic preparations exerted a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-biofilm activity.

Summary: Optimized ultrasound-assisted extraction and enzyme-assisted extraction were used to extract phenolic compounds from the pseudo-fruits of Rosa canina L. Enzymatic pre-treatment significantly increased the total phenolic content, with a higher abundance of lower molecular weight phenolics in the UAE extracts and gallic acid as the most abundant compound.

Chemical composition and potential bioactivities of essential oil from Quercus mongolica bark

Summary: This study investigated the chemical composition and potential bioactivities of essential oil from Quercus mongolica bark. It was found that the essential oil exhibited antioxidant activities and anticoagulant effects similar to heparin, mainly attributed to the presence of pentadecanoic acid. This suggests that waste Quercus mongolica bark could be a valuable material for pharmaceutical products.

Pseudocereals: a novel source of biologically active peptides

Summary: Research interest in underexploited foods has increased in the last two decades, with pseudocereals like quinoa, amaranth, chia, and buckwheat being highlighted for their nutritional value and bioactive compounds. These pseudocereals have been found to possess various health benefits, such as anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypocholesterolemic, and antihypertensive properties, leading to a growing importance of these crops. The purpose of this study was to provide a comprehensive review of the biological activities of peptides and protein hydrolysates derived from the most extensively studied pseudocereals.
