Integrity of the Left Arcuate Fasciculus Segments Significantly Affects Language Performance in Individuals with Acute/Subacute Post-Stroke Aphasia: A Cross-Sectional Diffusion Tensor Imaging Study

Qiwei Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the correlation between the segments of the left arcuate fasciculus (AF) and acute/subacute post-stroke aphasia (PSA). Language assessment and MRI scanning were conducted on 26 patients. The results show significant correlations between the lesion load of the language areas and diffusion indices on the left AF posterior and long segments with certain language subsets. The integrity of the left AF segments, particularly the posterior segment, is crucial for residual comprehension and repetition abilities in individuals with acute/subacute PSA.

Damage to Broca's area does not contribute to long-term speech production outcome after stroke

Andrea Gajardo-Vidal et al.

Summary: By studying the impact of damage to Broca's area and surrounding regions, it was found that long-term speech production outcome is mainly influenced by damage to white matter above the insula, in the vicinity of the anterior part of the arcuate fasciculus, rather than damage to Broca's area alone.

Functional Contributions of the Arcuate Fasciculus to Language Processing

Maria Ivanova et al.

Summary: Current evidence strongly supports the critical role of the arcuate fasciculus (AF) in language processing, with specific segments contributing to different language abilities. The posterior segment of the AF is particularly crucial for supporting residual language abilities, highlighting its important contributions beyond known cortical language areas.

Recovery of aphemia with pure word dumbness after treatment with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation: A case report

Jiang Rao et al.

Summary: Pure word aphemia is a rare clinical syndrome characterized by difficulties in oral expression while other language functions remain normal. This study found that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) may be an adjunct therapy for the recovery of aphemia patients with pure word dumbness.
