Impacts of Oceanic Fronts and Eddies in the Kuroshio-Oyashio Extension Region on the Atmospheric General Circulation and Storm Track

Guidi Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the progress in understanding the atmospheric response to midlatitude oceanic fronts and eddies, with a focus on the Kuroshio-Oyashio Extension (KOE) region. Oceanic fronts play a significant role in maintaining the storm track, but current research is still subject to uncertainties arising from inadequate data resolution.

Response of atmospheric circulation to multiscale SST anomaly associated with Kuroshio Extension decadal variability warming in winter

Jianqi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that the response of atmospheric circulation to different scales of sea surface temperature anomaly in extratropical oceans shows various patterns, including tripolar and baroclinic structures. Under the influence of mesoscale sea surface temperature anomaly, transient eddy activity is strengthened and feedback plays a major role in the large-scale circulation anomaly in the central-eastern Pacific. Barotropic energy conversion also plays a significant role in maintaining the large-scale circulation anomaly in the northwestern Pacific Ocean.
