IDF Diabetes Atlas: Global, regional and country-level diabetes prevalence estimates for 2021 and projections for 2045

Hong Sun et al.

Summary: This study provides global, regional, and country-level estimates of diabetes prevalence and health expenditures for 2021 and projections for 2045. The global prevalence of diabetes is increasing and is expected to have the greatest relative increase in middle-income countries. Diabetes-related health expenditures are also projected to rise.

Co-Administration of Iron and Bioavailable Curcumin Reduces Levels of Systemic Markers of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in a Placebo-Controlled Randomised Study

Helena Tiekou Lorinczova et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether co-administration of ferrous sulphate and formulated curcumin could reduce systemic inflammation and gastrointestinal side-effects. The results showed that the combination of ferrous sulphate and curcumin can reduce inflammation-related markers in the plasma. This supplementation approach may be a more cost-effective and convenient alternative to current oral iron-related treatments, but further research is needed.

The Role of Nutraceutical Containing Polyphenols in Diabetes Prevention

Iva Fernandes et al.

Summary: Research in pharmacological therapy has led to the availability of many antidiabetic agents. New recommendations for precision medicine and precision nutrition may greatly contribute to the control and prevention of diabetes. Daily consumption of diets rich in phenolic compounds, along with a healthy lifestyle, may protect against the development of type 2 diabetes.

Application of a Rapid and Simple Technological Process to Increase Levels and Bioccessibility of Free Phenolic Compounds in Annurca Apple Nutraceutical Product

Maria Maisto et al.

Summary: This study aimed to prepare nutraceutical products based on Annurca apple polyphenolic fraction and increase polyphenol bioaccessibility through acid treatment. The results showed that the levels of free polyphenols were higher in samples treated under acid conditions, and the bioaccessibility of polyphenols was significantly improved compared to untreated Annurca apple.

Screening and Identification of Potential Abscisic Acid Catabolites by Chemical Labeling-Assisted Ultrahigh-Performance Liquid Chromatography Coupled with High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry

Ya-Li Bai et al.

Summary: In this study, a screening strategy was established based on CIL-UPLC-HRMS for screening and identifying ABA catabolites. By proposing the structures of catabolites to be discovered and using chemical isotope labeling, ABA and its catabolites were successfully identified, including two previously unidentified catabolites.

Comprehensive Utilization of Thinned Unripe Fruits from Horticultural Crops

Mengyuan Wei et al.

Summary: Fruit thinning is a cultivation technique used to obtain high-quality horticultural crops, but it results in a large amount of discarded unripe fruits. These unripe fruits contain bioactive compounds that can be revalued for the food industry and have beneficial effects on human health.
