Development and evaluation of Moringa extract incorporated Chitosan/Guar gum/Poly (vinyl alcohol) active films for food packaging applications

Veena G. G. Bhat et al.

Summary: The present study successfully synthesized active films with the incorporation of moringa extract into chitosan/guar gum/poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix and investigated their mechanical, thermal, structural, and morphological properties. The results showed that the moringa extract had a marked influence on the properties of the active films and improved their mechanical strength and thermal stability.

Extraction of Bioactive Metabolites from Achillea millefolium L. with Choline Chloride Based Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Study of the Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activity

Milena Ivanovic et al.

Summary: In this study, the extraction efficiency of natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) based on choline chloride and five different hydrogen bond donors was evaluated for the first time for the isolation of bioactive compounds from Achillea millefolium L. The results showed that the lactic acid-based NADES had the highest total phenolic content and antioxidant activity, while the urea-based NADES had the highest antiradical potential.

Antioxidant and antibacterial evaluation of Manuka leaves (Leptospermum scoparium) extracted by hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent

Noor Alsaud et al.

Summary: Manuka leaves rich in p-caryophyllene were extracted using menthol:lactic acid HDES, ethanol, and n-hexane to compare total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Ethanol extract had the highest TPC, while HDES showed promising results and n-hexane had poor yield. The antibacterial effects of Manuka extract by HDES were also evaluated, demonstrating potential for broader industrial applications.
