Liposome based drug delivery as a potential treatment option for Alzheimer's disease

Carely Hernandez et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative condition that currently lacks effective treatments to slow down its progression. Drug delivery to the brain is a major challenge, but liposomes have emerged as a promising method for overcoming this barrier and delivering therapeutic agents. This review highlights the importance of liposomal drug delivery in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and discusses current research and future prospects.

Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Signaling in the Pathophysiology of Alzheimer's Disease: Beneficial Effects of Flavonoids for Neuroprotection

Tadahiro Numakawa et al.

Summary: BDNF plays a crucial role in various neural functions through the activation of its high-affinity receptor TrkB, and abnormalities in BDNF signaling have been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease. Studies have shown the potential involvement of deregulated BDNF signaling in the pathophysiology of AD, and compounds like flavonoids may offer promise as BDNF-targeting therapies.

Effects of sonication and ultrasound on properties and bioactivities of liposomes loaded with hydrolyzed collagen from defatted sea bass skin conjugated with epigallocatechin gallate

Lalita Chotphruethipong et al.

Summary: Hydrolyzed collagen from defatted sea bass skin conjugated with epigallocatechin gallate was loaded into liposome with the highest encapsulation efficiency for 1% conjugate. Ultrasound-assisted process at 20% amplitude for 2 minutes showed the highest encapsulation efficiency. Lyophilized liposome loaded with conjugate had higher stability under storage conditions, especially for the ultrasound-assisted liposome. The antioxidant activity in the gastrointestinal track model system was higher for the ultrasound-assisted liposome. Liposome can be a promising means to stabilize the conjugate for wider applications.
