Evaluating prevalence of external injuries on nesting loggerhead sea turtles Caretta caretta in southeastern Florida, USA

Aleah Ataman et al.

Summary: Sea turtles nesting on Juno and Jupiter beaches in Florida, USA, were found to have a higher prevalence of injuries caused by human activities, particularly boat strikes. Most injuries were healed, with a majority occurring on the lateral aspect of the carapace or appendages.

Flooding-induced mortality of loggerhead sea turtle eggs

Colin J. Limpus et al.

Summary: Research shows that marine turtle eggs in the middle of incubation can tolerate short-term saltwater and freshwater flooding, but prolonged flooding can lead to embryonic mortality. Therefore, actions need to be taken to maximize hatching success before the eggs are flooded.
