Downregulation of NF-kB signaling is involved in berberine-mediated protection of crucian carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) from cyprinid herpesvirus 2 infection

Meizhen Su et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the plant alkaloid berberine can effectively inhibit the expression and replication of CyHV-2 in crucian carp through negative regulation of the NF-xB signaling pathway. This indicates that berberine has the potential to serve as a small molecular drug for controlling CyHV-2 infection in fish. The findings also show that berberine can attenuate inflammatory injury and viral load in CyHV-2-infected crucian carp cell lines in a dose-dependent manner.
