Disturbed lipid and amino acid metabolisms in COVID-19 patients

Summary: This study found significant differences in plasma metabolic signatures between COVID-19 patients and control group, primarily in lipid and amino acid metabolism. Protein systems biology analysis revealed that COVID-19 mainly impacted sphingolipid, tryptophan, tyrosine, glutamine, arginine, and arachidonic acid metabolism pathways. Additionally, decreased levels of GABA could serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for COVID-19 patients.

Clinicopathologic characteristics of severe COVID-19 patients in Mexico City: A post-mortem analysis using a minimally invasive autopsy approach

Summary: This study describes the histological findings of minimally invasive ultrasound-guided autopsies in deceased patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 and compares them with open autopsies. The results show a correlation with previous studies, but this approach may overlook important histological features of the disease. Endothelitis and micro-thrombosis were not observed in the cases studied. Overall, this study provides important insights into the pathology of severe SARS-CoV-2.
