Understanding adsorption and biodegradation in granular activated carbon for drinking water treatment: A critical review

Jie Yuan et al.

Summary: This review summarizes and critically discusses the experimental and modeling approaches and results used to distinguish between the role of adsorption and biodegradation in granular activated carbon (GAC). Several limitations are identified, and four new approaches are proposed to overcome these limitations.

Micropollutant Mass Transfer Zones in Granular Activated Carbon Contactors

Jie Yuan et al.

Summary: The study found a broad mass transfer zone (MTZ) in GAC beds, with uniform removal efficiencies for various micropollutants at different depths and observed the expansion of MTZ in a newly installed GAC filter within a short period of time.
