Discoloration and mineralization of a textile azo dye using a hybrid UV/O3/SBR process

Hakimeh Mahdizadeh et al.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of a textile dye (RR-198) using UV, ozone, and SBR processes, finding that the UV/O-3/SBR hybrid process achieved the highest dye discoloration percentage and TOC removal. Adjusting pH and reducing initial dye concentration in the ozonation process can increase discoloration percentage. By combining biological systems and Advanced Oxidation Processes, it is possible to effectively decompose resistant pollutants and improve biodegradability of compounds in the water and wastewater industry.

Treatment of polyvinyl alcohol containing wastewater in two stage spiral symmetrical stream anaerobic bioreactors coupled a sequencing batch reactor

Qi Song et al.

Summary: This study focused on the treatment of PVA-containing wastewater discharged from the textile industry. The feasibility of anaerobic treatment was verified through batch experiments, and a two stage SSSABs coupled SBR scheme was proposed, which showed higher removal rates compared to other schemes. Each reactor in the process was found to play an important role, and SEM images revealed the unique microbial flora in each SSSAB. The SSSAB-SSSAB-SBR process offers an alternative to chemical methods for treating PVA-containing wastewater.

Ameliorating effect of nitrate on nitrite inhibition for denitrifying P-accumulating organisms

Ivar Zekker et al.

Summary: Lowering air supply and organic carbon demand are key factors in reducing wastewater treatment costs and preventing eutrophication. Utilizing denitrifying polyphosphate accumulating organisms (DPAOs) in the denitrifying PO4-- removal (DPR) process with nitrate has shown efficient removal of COD, nitrogen, and phosphorus in wastewater with high nitrite and nitrate content. The use of nitrate attenuation against nitrite toxicity can be economically justified in full-scale treatment applications.
