Effect of the form of granular sludge and temperature on anammox immobilized fillers: From performance to microbial community analysis

XiaoTong Wang et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of immobilized carrier and temperature changes on nitrogen removal, finding that crushed and encapsulated AnGS showed higher nitrogen removal rates but lower tolerance to Fe2+ and Cu2+. Immobilization reduced the activation energy of anammox and enabled efficient nitrogen removal through temperature-HRT adjustments. High-throughput sequencing analysis revealed shifts in community structure with temperature changes, impacting the dominance of anammox functional bacteria.

Energy saving anammox technology-based nitrogen removal and bioenergy recovery from wastewater: Inhibition mechanisms, state-of-the-art control strategies, and prospects

Amarpreet Singh Arora et al.

Summary: The anammox technology is highly regarded for its low sludge production and energy efficiency, but faces challenges in dealing with inhibiting factors in waste streams. Detailed control and mitigation of these factors are crucial for successful implementation of the technology. Developing and implementing control strategies are key to addressing inhibiting factors and ensuring optimal performance.

Summary: The study found that a partial nitritation-anammox process can achieve stable and efficient nitrogen removal under certain operating conditions. The quantity of microbial consortia with good granularity in the system has a significant impact, leading to changes in microbial community structure.

A successful start-up of an anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) coupled mainstream partial nitritation-anammox (PN/A) system: A pilot-scale study on in-situ NOB elimination, AnAOB growth kinetics, and mainstream treatment performance

Jiang Wu et al.

Summary: The study proposes an innovative treatment process that combines AnMBR with a PN/A system for carbon-neutral municipal wastewater treatment. Through a 255-day start-up process, it was demonstrated that the AnMBR-PN/A process effectively eliminates NOB while retaining AOB community in suspended sludge. The mainstream treatment results showed that the TN removal performance meets discharge limits and the AnMBR-PN/A process has potential for carbon-neutral wastewater treatment plants.
