Enhanced heterogeneous photocatalytic perozone degradation of amoxicillin by ZnO modified TiO2 nanocomposites under visible light irradiation

Thanh Diem Ngo Thi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the enhanced photocatalytic activities of ZnO-TiO2 nanocomposite for the removal of antibiotic residue from water. The optimal composite ratio of ZnO nanoparticles and TiO2 was found to be 10%, and this catalyst effectively improved the degradation of the antibiotic. The study also found that the ZnO-TiO2 nanocomposite had high stability and could be reused multiple times.

Mineralization of the antibiotic levofloxacin by the electro-peroxone process using a filter-press flow cell with a 3D air-diffusion electrode

Oscar M. Cornejo et al.

Summary: This study focused on the degradation of antibiotic levofloxacin (LVN) using the electro-peroxone (E-peroxone) process in a lab-scale flow plant operated in recirculation mode. The research found that the E-peroxone method achieved 63% mineralization of LVN under specific conditions, with factors such as current density, volumetric electrolyte flow rate, and initial concentration of LVN influencing the mineralization efficiency. Oxalic, oxamic, and tartaric acids were identified as the main final products of LVN mineralization during the electrolysis process.

Heterogeneous ozonation of ofloxacin using MnOx-CeOx/γ-Al2O3 as a catalyst: Performances, degradation kinetics and possible degradation pathways

Shengkai Xu et al.

Summary: The presence of synthesized MnOx-CeOx/gamma-Al2O3 as a catalyst significantly improved the degradation of ofloxacin (OFX) in synthetic wastewater, achieving removal rates of 98.2% for OFX and 76.7% for COD. The catalyst also increased the reaction rate constant by a factor of five, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing the ozonation process for OFX degradation. Additionally, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) results identified various small-molecule organics in the final oxidation products, highlighting the complex pathways involved in OFX degradation and mineralization.

Fenton Degradation of Ofloxacin Using a Montmorillonite-Fe3O4 Composite

Alamri Rahmah Dhahawi Ahmad et al.

Summary: FeM composites composed of montmorillonite and Fe3O4 were synthesized and used for OFL antibiotic degradation. The efficiency of FeM composites was studied by adjusting various parameters, with FeM-10 showing a significant drop in efficiency after five cycles. Further studies are needed to address this weakness.

Degradation and mineralization of ofloxacin by ozonation and peroxone (O3/H2O2) process

Hai Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that the degradation and mineralization of ofloxacin by ozonation and peroxone process were effective, with peroxone process showing a significantly better mineralization effect compared to ozonation alone. The dosage of H2O2 and O-3 was crucial for process performance, and the presence of HCO3- and PO43- enhanced mineralization while Cl- and NO3- had a negative impact on mineralization efficiency.

Improving Fenton-like oxidation of Rhodamin B using a new catalyst based on magnetic/iron-containing waste slag composite

Lan Huong Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the use of magnetic waste iron slag composite as a catalyst enhances the heterogeneous catalytic Fenton of Rhodamine B. The enriched Fe content in MIS-10 significantly improves the catalytic efficiency of RhB degradation and oxidation under optimal conditions. MIS-10 exhibits high stability and promising catalytic activity for the oxidation of persistent organic compounds in wastewater.
