Degradation of a non-oxidizing biocide in circulating cooling water using UV/persulfate: Kinetics, pathways, and cytotoxicity

Summary: This study systematically investigated the oxidative degradation of isothiazolinone by UV/persulfate technology and found that the presence of .OH and SO4.- in the UV/PS system significantly contributed to the degradation of CMIT-MIT. The degradation efficiency of CMIT-MIT was improved with UV/PS compared to only UV or oxidant, and showed a slight decrease with increasing pH. The UV/PS process effectively reduced the cytotoxicity of CMIT-MIT within 20 minutes, demonstrating its potential as a water treatment technology.

Bisphenol S degradation via persulfate activation under UV-LED using mixed catalysts: Synergistic effect of Cu-TiO2 and Zn-TiO2 for catalysis

Enhanced ciprofloxacin degradation by electrochemical activation of persulfate using iron decorated carbon membrane cathode: Promoting direct single electron transfer to produce 1O2

Summary: In this study, a novel iron-decorated carbon membrane cathode and SnO2-Bi/Ti anode were used for the electrochemical activation of persulfate. The FeCM cathode showed superior CIP removal due to the presence of C = O, Fe2+/Fe3+, and F on its surface. The continuous supply of negative charges enabled rapid redox cycle of Fe2+/Fe3+ on the FeCM cathode, providing high stability and improved cyclic performance. The technology showed potential for outdoor application and the mechanism and pathways of CIP removal were proposed.

Electrochemical-assisted ultraviolet light coupled peroxodisulfate system to degrade ciprofloxacin in water: Kinetics, mechanism and pathways

Summary: The electrochemical-assisted ultraviolet light coupled peroxodisulfate system (E-UV-PDS) was used to degrade ciprofloxacin (CIP). The study found that electrolysis and ultraviolet photolysis had synergistic effects, and explored the effects of initial pH, voltage, peroxodisulfate dosage, CIP concentration, and coexisting anions on the degradation process. The results showed that CIP could be efficiently degraded under certain conditions, and intermediate products were identified and degradation pathways were speculated using LCMS.

The photo-aging of polyvinyl chloride microplastics under different UV irradiations

Metal-organic framework-derived CuCo/carbon as an efficient magnetic heterogeneous catalyst for persulfate activation and ciprofloxacin degradation

Degradation of dyes by UV/Persulfate and comparison with other UV-based advanced oxidation processes: Kinetics and role of radicals

Electro-peroxone application for ciprofloxacin degradation in aqueous solution using sacrificial iron anode: A new hybrid process

Summary: In this study, a completely novel approach of hybridizing electro-peroxone (EP) with a sacrificial iron anode (EP/iron) was investigated for the degradation of ciprofloxacin (CIP). The EP/iron process exhibited superior degradation performance compared to other methods tested, completely degrading CIP in 40 minutes with a rate constant of 0.126 min-1 under optimal conditions. Operational parameters and inhibitory effects of naturally-occurring anions were thoroughly evaluated, and the EP/iron process showed excellent potential for the removal of CIP and total organic carbon (TOC) content in real hospital wastewater.

Enhanced photodegradation of methyl orange dye under UV irradiation using MoO3 and Ag doped TiO2 photocatalysts

Volcanic rock: A new type of particle electrode with excellent performance, which can efficiently degrade norfloxacin

The volcanic rocks showed high mechanical strength stability and excellent electrocatalytic activity, with hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals produced in the system. The volcanic rocks also exhibited promising effects in actual surface water treatment.

The pH-dependent degradation of sulfadiazine using natural siderite activating PDS: The role of singlet oxygen

Summary: In this study, naturally occurring siderite was utilized as a heterogeneous catalyst to activate peroxodisulfate for the degradation of sulfadiazine under different initial pH values. Various reactive oxygen species (ROS) were found to be present during the degradation process, with O-1(2) playing a significant role in facilitating the initial degradation rate. Factors such as initial pH values, siderite dosage, and PDS concentration were discussed, and the comprehensive degradation process was proposed based on LC-MS results. Additionally, the recyclability of siderite at a pH of 3 was demonstrated, highlighting the potential for using the siderite/PDS system for the degradation of sulfonamide pollutants.
