The effects of using phase change material (PCM) on heat sink cooling performance were investigated in this study. The experiments showed that the use of PCM significantly reduced the temperatures of the heat sink. Additionally, the study found that adding nanoparticles to the PCM improved heat sink performance.
The effect of using phase change material (PCM) on the performance of the heat sink cooling was investigated in this study. Experiments of the heat sink cooling subjected to several input powers (11 W, 13 W and 15 W) to and air flow velocities (3.4 m/s, 2.5 m/s, and 1.5 m/s) have been conducted with two different case studies with and without PCM. Also, the influences of using PCM with different velocities on time delay and decreasing temperature on the heat sink were considered in this paper. The paraffin wax was used as a phase change material and it was placed under a heat sink with thickness of 30 mm and 60 mm. It is found that the working heat sink with PCM can reduce the temperatures till 18 degrees C. Also, the effect of adding nanoparticles (Al2O3 ) to phase change material was studied in this present paper. It is shown that the low amount of nanoparticles (2%) was improving the performance of the heat sink.
