Two-layer co-optimization method for a distributed energy system combining multiple energy storages

Jiacheng Guo et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of nearly zero-energy buildings, the establishment of a nearly zero-energy community composed of concentrated and contiguous nearly zero-energy buildings constitutes the future architectural trend. However, configuration and optimization research of distributed energy systems combining multiple energy storages (DES-MESs) for the nearly zero-energy community is not sufficiently mature. This paper proposes a DES-MES combining power-to-heat, power-to-cold and lithium batteries and a two-layer co-optimization method. The results show that the co-optimization method effectively balances the accuracy of the optimization results and calculation time.

Two-layer co-optimization method for a distributed energy system combining multiple energy storages

Jiacheng Guo et al.

Summary: This paper proposed a distributed energy system structure optimization method combining power-to-heat, power-to-cold, and lithium batteries, and conducted research in the scenario of nearly zero-energy community. Through a two-layer co-optimization method, the stability issue of multi-parameter or multi-stage co-optimization methods was effectively addressed. Comparative research showed that under the nearly zero-energy community scenario, DES-MES could significantly reduce primary energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions compared to a separated production system.

Optimal operation scheduling of a pump hydro storage system coupled with a wind farm

Joao Graca Gomes et al.

Summary: The study develops an optimization model to maximize revenue for a renewable power unit consisting of a wind farm and a hydro-pump storage power plant. In the day-ahead market scenario, the proposed methodology leads to an average yearly increase of net revenue ranging between 5% and 20%. Additionally, the coupling of the wind farm and hydropower plant can substantially reduce imbalance costs.

Optimal design of hybrid combined cooling, heating and power systems considering the uncertainties of load demands and renewable energy sources

Jiangjiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a multi-objective stochastic optimization model of a hybrid CCHP system considering uncertainties and uses the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II to optimize the system to achieve the best energy, economic, and environmental benefits. The results show that lower system reliability leads to more energy-saving and greenhouse emission reduction benefits, but the annual cost saving rate is affected by system confidence level and uncertainty. Sensitivity analysis demonstrates that the annual cost saving rate is more sensitive to natural gas price, while the investment cost of solar collectors has a stronger impact than gas turbine.

A novel multi-objective stochastic risk co-optimization model of a zero-carbon multi-energy system (ZCMES) incorporating energy storage aging model and integrated demand response

Tobi Michael Alabi et al.

Summary: A novel modelling strategy for a realistic and highly flexible zero-carbon multi-energy system (ZCMES) is proposed, incorporating energy storage aging influence and integrated demand response (IDR). The approach involves multi-objective optimization and Markowitz portfolio risk theory to evaluate and mitigate uncertainties during decision-making. The simulation results demonstrate significant reductions in investment cost, operation cost, and overall expenditure, providing insights into optimal planning for ZCMES.
