Dodecylamine coordinated tri-arm CdS nanorod wrapped in intermittent ZnS shell for greatly improved photocatalytic H2 evolution

Guotai Sun et al.

Summary: A new photocatalyst, tri-arm CdS/ZnS core-shell nanorod, shows significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance with improved quantum efficiency and hydrogen evolution rate. This enhancement is attributed to the win-win situation between the CdS/ZnS heterojunction and the H+ adsorption resulting from DDA molecules.

Knack behind the high performance CdS/ZnS-NiS nanocomposites: Optimizing synergistic effect between cocatalyst and heterostructure for boosting hydrogen evolution

Dandan Ma et al.

Summary: Introducing a co-catalyst and constructing a heterostructure are two effective strategies in improving the photocatalytic H2 evolution performance of semiconductors. This study successfully fabricated a co-catalyst NiS decorated ZnS/CdS heterostructure for efficient photocatalytic H2 evolution from water splitting. The optimized heterostructure showed a high hydrogen evolution rate without the need for additional noble metal co-catalyst, demonstrating the synergistic effect between the heterostructure and co-catalyst. The one-pot fabrication process allowed for the formation of closely contacted interfaces and sufficient exposure of active reaction sites, leading to enhanced H2 evolution ability.

A double-Z-scheme ZnO/AgI/WO3 photocatalyst with high visible light activity: Experimental design and mechanism pathway in the degradation of methylene blue

Shirin Ghattavi et al.

Summary: A double Z-scheme AgI/ZnO/WO3 photocatalyst was constructed and investigated for methylene blue (MB) degradation, revealing that photogenerated holes and hydroxyl radicals play crucial roles in MB photodegradation. The composite is considered to be a double Z-scheme system with interactions between WO3-ZnO and ZnO-AgI systems, accumulating electrons and holes in AgI-CB and WO3-VB, respectively, through a cascade mechanism.

An efficient Z-scheme CdS/g-C3N4 nano catalyst in methyl orange photodegradation: Focus on the scavenging agent and mechanism

Nafiseh Pourshirband et al.

Summary: The study focused on estimating the band gap energy and potential positions of valence and conduction bands for CdS/g-C3N4 coupled sample, and constructing energy diagrams for illustrating the photodegradation mechanism pathway. The highest efficiency for methyl orange degradation was achieved in acidic conditions, where the predominant MO species could be adsorbed by the catalyst via hydrogen bonding. The importance of photogenerated electrons, holes, superoxide radicals, and hydroxyl radicals in the photodegradation process was identified, with the direct Z-scheme mechanism proving to be more efficient.

Ascorbic acid functionalized CdS-ZnO core-shell nanorods with hydrogen spillover for greatly enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution and outstanding photostability

Guotai Sun et al.

Summary: In this work, CdS-ZnO core-shell nanorods with controlled ZnO shell were synthesized, showing a high photocatalytic H-2 evolution rate attributed to factors such as the single-crystalline structure of CdS, Z-scheme mechanism formed between CdS and ZnO, and the introduced ascorbic acid. The homogeneous ZnO shell grown on the CdS core efficiently suppresses the photo-corrosion of CdS, providing outstanding photostability for CdS/ZnO.
