Decoding the Plant Growth Promotion and Antagonistic Potential of Bacterial Endophytes From Ocimum sanctum Linn. Against Root Rot Pathogen Fusarium oxysporum in Pisum sativum

Shikha Gupta et al.

Summary: The present study demonstrates that two bacterial endophytes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa OS_12 and Aneurinibacillus aneurinilyticus OS_25, isolated from leaves of Ocimum sanctum Linn., promote plant growth and induce systemic resistance in pea plants against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. pisi. These endophytes also showed antagonistic activity and produced various beneficial substances for plant growth. The pot trials revealed that pea plants treated with these endophytes had a lower infection rate of Fusarium root rot disease and improved growth parameters. The endophytes enhanced the activities of defense-related enzymes and reduced oxidative stress in the host plants.

Genomic Analysis of Endophytic Bacillus-Related Strains Isolated from the Medicinal Plant Origanum vulgare L. Revealed the Presence of Metabolic Pathways Involved in the Biosynthesis of Bioactive Compounds

Giulia Semenzato et al.

Summary: The genome sequence of four endophytic bacterial strains isolated from the medicinal plant Origanum vulgare L. was reported, which were able to antagonize the growth of opportunistic pathogens of cystic fibrosis patients. In silico analysis revealed the presence of gene clusters involved in the production of antimicrobial compounds, and the adaptation of endophytes to the plant microenvironment was evaluated through the analysis of antibiotic resistance genes in the four genomes. Additionally, their diesel fuel degrading potential was also tested.

Role of Endophytes in Abiotic Stress Tolerance: With Special Emphasis on Serendipita indica

Jaagriti Tyagi et al.

Summary: Abiotic stresses in soil, such as high salinity, temperature, drought, heavy metals, and nutrient imbalances, have negative effects on plant growth and crop productivity. Conventional methods of biomass production in agriculture are not sustainable and often harm the ecosystem. The use of fungal endophytes, such as Serendipita indica, can help increase plant growth and improve stress tolerance in crops. This review emphasizes the importance of fungal endophyte colonization in plant growth management under abiotic stress conditions.

Recent Developments in the Study of Plant Microbiomes

Bernard R. Glick et al.

Summary: Studying how beneficial bacteria promote plant growth has shown that specific soil microorganism consortia interact to benefit plant growth. Plants attract beneficial microorganisms based on their root exudates, excluding potentially pathogenic ones, and these consortia not only promote plant growth but also protect plants from environmental stresses. By understanding beneficial bacterial microbiomes, it may be possible to develop synthetic microbiomes where compatible bacteria work together to promote plant growth under various natural conditions.
