An Improvement in Diagnostic Blood Culture Conditions Allows for the Rapid Detection and Isolation of the Slow Growing Pathogen Yersinia pestis

Efi Makdasi et al.

Summary: Yersinia pestis, the pathogen causing plague, is difficult to detect and isolate due to its slow growth. This study found that adding nutritional supplements to blood cultures can accelerate bacterial growth, facilitating the rapid detection and isolation of Y. pestis.
