Decursin inhibits tumor progression in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma by downregulating CXCR7 expression in vitro

Mina Joo et al.

Summary: CXCR7 is overexpressed in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and plays a significant role in cancer progression. Decursin, a natural compound, inhibits CXCR7 expression and suppresses cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in HNSCC cell lines. It also induces G0/G1 cell cycle arrest and decreases the levels of cyclin A, cyclin E, and CDK2. Furthermore, CXCR7 promotes cancer progression through the STAT3/c-Myc pathway, which can be prevented by decursin treatment.

Polyelectrolyte Multilayer Films as a Potential Buccal Platform for Drug Delivery

Bissera Pilicheva et al.

Summary: The goal of this research was to explore the potential of polyelectrolyte multilayers as buccal dosage forms and study the impact of drug properties on the delivery system's performance. Multilayer films based on the interaction between casein and chitosan were developed using benzydamine, tolfenamic acid and betahistine as model drugs. The samples exhibited non-irritation, physical stability, and mucoadhesion, making them an ideal delivery system for sparingly soluble drugs.

Summary: A facile and green synthesis method was developed to obtain zinc oxide nanoparticles using three polysaccharide gums. The biosynthesized nanoparticles were then incorporated into a functionalized chitosan hydrogel matrix. The study showed that the use of polysaccharides as chelates allows for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles with controlled morphology. The hydrogels exhibited corrugated topographies and were cytocompatible in cell culture experiments.
