Safety study of Rift Valley Fever human vaccine candidate (DDVax) in mosquitoes

Summary: The study showed that DDVax had significantly lower infection rates in mosquitoes and could not be transmitted between mosquitoes. Although infectious virus could be isolated from the bodies of mosquitoes fed on goats inoculated with DDVax or MP-12, the number of DDvax-positive mosquitoes was significantly reduced. Furthermore, DDVax did not disseminate to the legs and wings of mosquitoes fed on goats.

Summary: In this study, it was found that in adults aged 70 and over, the rates of major arterial or venous thrombotic events were generally lower after receiving the first dose of either ChAdOx1-S or BNT162b2 vaccines. For individuals under 70 years of age, the small increased risks of intracranial venous thrombosis (ICVT) and hospitalization with thrombocytopenia after receiving the first dose of ChAdOx1-S are likely to be outweighed by the vaccines' effectiveness in reducing COVID-19 mortality and morbidity.

Self-amplifying RNA vaccines for infectious diseases

Summary: By combining self-assembling multimeric protein scaffold particles (MPSPs) and bacterial superglue, antigens can be bound to particles in their native conformation, improving the immunogenicity of a candidate subunit vaccine against the zoonotic Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV). Experimental results showed that the Gn head domain coupled to lumazine synthase-based MPSP reduced mortality in mice and protected lambs from viremia and clinical signs after immunization.
