Bone remodelling in implanted proximal femur using topology optimization and parameterized cellular model

Basil Mathai et al.

Summary: This study focuses on developing a novel computational framework for predicting bone remodelling around an uncemented femoral implant using multiscale topology optimization and a parameterized cellular model. The research demonstrates that the topology optimization model shows higher correlation with the SED model, and the bone density distributions are comparable to clinical observations. However, more robust modeling of boundary conditions is needed for 3D models.

Selective Voronoi tessellation as a method to design anisotropic and biomimetic implants

Joseph Deering et al.

Summary: Porous scaffolds designed using selective Voronoi tessellation mimic the natural structure of trabecular bone, with preferential seeding creating a texture and orientation in the implant. Anisotropy and tunable architecture are increased in these biomimetic scaffolds, demonstrating an effective method for generating patient-specific bone geometries.
