Worldwide prevalence of hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus among patients with cirrhosis at country, region, and global levels: a systematic review

Catharina J. Alberts et al.

Summary: This study estimated the prevalence of HBV and HCV infection in patients with cirrhosis globally, finding that nearly two-thirds of cirrhosis cases are caused by HBV and HCV, which will help in achieving the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis.

Cost-effectiveness of antiviral treatment in adult patients with immune-tolerant phase chronic hepatitis B

Hye-Lin Kim et al.

Summary: This study found that starting antiviral therapy in the immune-tolerant phase is more cost-effective compared with delaying treatment until the active hepatitis phase in CHB patients, especially with increasing hepatocellular carcinoma risk, decreasing drug costs, and consideration of productivity loss.

Trimmed Constrained Mixed Effects Models: Formulations and Algorithms

Peng Zheng et al.

Summary: Mixed effects (ME) models are widely used in the physical and social sciences, as well as in meta-analysis. This article introduces an efficient approach for ME models with linear random effects component to handle nonlinear measurements, priors, and constraints, providing robust estimates through trimming in the associated marginal likelihood. The open-source Python package LimeTr is able to recover results more accurately and efficiently, showing advanced functionality and robust extensions in analyses of global health data.

Estimating the attributable fraction of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma due to hepatitis B and C

Erika Duffell et al.

Summary: The WHO aims to reduce attributable mortality from hepatitis by 65%, and a collaborative study between ECDC and EASL assessed a protocol to support countries in collecting data on the fraction of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma attributable to hepatitis B and C. Three sentinel sites in Europe collected data on patients with cirrhosis and HCC, showing differences in HBV and HCV prevalence among cases.

Measuring routine childhood vaccination coverage in 204 countries and territories, 1980-2019: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2020, Release 1

Natalie C. Galles et al.

Summary: By 2019, global coverage of key childhood vaccines such as DTP3, MCV1, and Pol3 had significantly increased compared to 1980. Despite this progress, global vaccine coverage plateaued in the past decade, with some countries even experiencing a decrease in DTP3 coverage. Strengthening vaccine data monitoring systems and focusing on underserved populations are crucial to ensure all children have access to life-saving vaccines.

Narrative Review of Infection Control Knowledge and Attitude among Healthcare Workers

Abdurahman AlJohani et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate infection control knowledge and attitudes among healthcare workers, with findings showing high levels of knowledge in precautionary measures and compliance with needle safety precautions. Results indicated a weak positive correlation between staff attitude and precautionary measures, and a moderate positive correlation between precautionary measures and compliance with needle safety precautions.
