Why renewables and energy efficiency are not enough - the relevance of sufficiency in the heating sector for limiting global warming to 1.5 °C

Luisa Cordroch et al.

Summary: The decarbonisation of the German heating sector is challenging but necessary. Fast reduction of energy demand and increase of renewable energy supply are required. However, existing efficiency and consistency measures have limitations in terms of potential, expansion speed, resources, and acceptance. Sufficiency measures, which have high potential in reducing heat demand and alleviating pressure on the supply side, should be considered as an important pillar for a successful heat sector transformation.

Does environmental policy stringency reduce CO2 emissions? Evidence from high-polluted economies

Qin Yirong

Summary: The study aims to analyze the asymmetric effects of environmental policy stringency on CO2 emissions in top emitter's economies such as China, USA, India, Russia, and Japan. The findings show that increasing or decreasing environmental policy stringency can lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions in the long run, and policymakers should consider both positive and negative changes when formulating environment-related regulations.

Rh/ZrO2@C(MIL) catalytic activity and TEM images. CO2 conversion performance and structural systematic evaluation of novel catalysts derived from Zr-MOF metallated with Ru, Rh, Pd or In

Dalal S. Alqarni et al.

Summary: A set of novel materials were prepared and transformed into high-performance catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation, showing representative activity and selectivity. Ru/ZrO2@C(MIL) and Rh/ZrO2@C(MIL) exhibited excellent CO2 hydrogenation activity and stable CH4 production at high temperatures. Pd/ZrO2@C(MIL) mainly produced CO and CH3OH, but with lower and unstable activity. In/ZrO2@C(MIL) showed good reverse-water-gas-shift catalytic activity at high temperatures, but with poor selectivity for methanol.

Synthesis of formaldehyde from CO2 catalyzed by the coupled photo-enzyme system

Mengya Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reduction of CO2 to formaldehyde using a photo-enzyme coupled system. The optimal pH values and electron donors for the reactions are determined. Furthermore, the loading ratio of enzymes and the concentration of cofactors are optimized, and the stability of the system is examined. The results demonstrate the efficiency and stability of the photo-enzyme coupled system in producing formaldehyde from CO2.

Tuning interaction of surface-adsorbed species over Fe/K-Al2O3 modified with transition metals (Cu, Mn, V, Zn or Co) on light olefins production from CO2 hydrogenation

Nawapat Chaipraditgul et al.

Summary: The presence of transition metals in Fe/K-Al2O3 significantly influences the catalytic performance for CO2 hydrogenation to light olefins. The addition of Cu and Zn increases weakly adsorbed H atoms, resulting in high CO2 conversion and longer chain hydrocarbons. Adding Co enhances CO2 conversion but provides short chain hydrocarbons, while Mn or V inhibits CO hydrogenation and lowers CO2 conversion.

Anton S. Konopatsky et al.

Summary: Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets supported Fe-based catalysts were characterized for CO2 hydrogenation. FePt/BN nanomaterials exhibited higher CO2 conversion rate and nearly 100% selectivity to carbon monoxide, with a unique interaction mechanism between Fe and Pt components enhancing stability.

Meng Cui et al.

Summary: The study presents the production of liquid fuel from CO2 hydrogenation by coupling homogeneous RuCl3 and heterogeneous Ru-0 catalysts at the lowest reported temperature (180 degrees C) and achieving the highest C5+ selectivity to date (71.1%). The synergy of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis is identified as the key factor for the outstanding performance.

Density functional and microkinetic study of CO2 hydrogenation to methanol on subnanometer Pd cluster doped by transition metal (M = Cu, Ni, Pt, Rh)

Adhitya Gandaryus Saputro et al.

Summary: Through density functional theory and microkinetic calculations, it is found that doping transition metals can decrease the activation energy of CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, leading to an improved catalyst activity, especially in Pd6Ni clusters. Pd6M clusters show a preference towards the formate pathway over the RWGS + CO hydrogenation pathway.
