Potential role of chitinase-3-like protein 1 (CHI3L1/YKL-40) in neurodegeneration and Alzheimer's disease

Kevin Connolly et al.

Summary: CHI3L1 is a biomarker for early detection of neuroinflammation and disease diagnosis of AD. It is primarily provided by astrocytes in the brain and may play a crucial role in neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases. In peripheral tissues, it is also a master regulator for injury and repair events.

Co-expression patterns of microglia markers Iba1, TMEM119 and P2RY12 in Alzheimer's disease

Boyd Kenkhuis et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the expression patterns of microglia markers, Iba1, TMEM119, and P2RY12, in Alzheimer's disease patients. The results revealed a significant loss of TMEM119 expression and an increase in P2RY12 expression in Alzheimer patients. No morphological features were associated with the loss or gain of these markers or phenotypes.

Chitinase domain containing 1 increase is associated with low survival rate and M0 macrophages infiltrates in colorectal cancer patients

Paola Castrogiovanni et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is frequently associated with increased expression levels of Chitinase domain-containing protein 1 (CHID1). The expression of CHID1 is significantly increased in CRC biopsies compared to healthy mucosa, and its levels correlate with disease progression, BRAF mutations, and poor prognosis. Genomic deconvolution analysis suggests the potential infiltration of Macrophages M0 in high CHID1 expression levels (HCEL) patients, and Macrophages M1 cells in low CHID1 expression levels (LCEL) patients.

TMEM106B and CPOX are genetic determinants of cerebrospinal fluid Alzheimer's disease biomarker levels

Shengjun Hong et al.

Summary: This study identified novel genetic associations between TMEM106B and NfL CSF levels, as well as between CPOX and YKL-40. The findings provide important insights into interindividual variation in AD-related CSF biomarkers, shedding light on the sequence of events in neuropathological processes relevant to AD.

Hippocampal transcriptome deconvolution reveals differences in cell architecture of not demented elderly subjects underwent late-life physical activity

Cristina Sanfilippo et al.

Summary: Physical exercise plays a crucial role in improving cognitive function and delaying age-associated neurological decline, affecting the structure of brain cells. Transcriptome analysis showed that individuals engaged in high physical activity exhibited higher expression in genes related to neurons and synaptic transmission, while those engaged in low physical activity had higher expression in genes related to oligodendrocytes and microglia.

Interplay Between Microglia and Alzheimer's Disease-Focus on the Most Relevant Risks: APOE Genotype, Sex and Age

Yanting Chen et al.

Summary: Microglia play a crucial role in the progression of AD, especially in relation to the risk factors of APOE genotype, sex, and aging. The interaction between microglia and these risk factors can exacerbate neurodegeneration and contribute to the risk of AD. Additionally, new microglia replacement after depletion shows promise in AD treatment as a potential strategy.

Brain CHID1 Expression Correlates with NRGN and CALB1 in Healthy Subjects and AD Patients

Paola Castrogiovanni et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is a progressive and devastating brain disorder that destroys memory and social behavior. Current research has identified chitinase-like protein CHID1 as potentially involved in AD, with its expression levels in different brain regions showing correlation differences. CHID1 may play a role in the principal processes underlying Alzheimer's disease.
