Role of Community Health Volunteers Since the 2015 Nepal Earthquakes: A Qualitative Study

Summary: This study explores the factors and barriers faced by female community health volunteers (FCHVs) during the 2015 Nepal earthquakes. The study finds that FCHVs were the first responders and well accepted by local communities. However, they faced challenges such as lack of disaster-related knowledge and skills, different supervision models and workload discrepancies, and inadequate medical supplies. Therefore, regular disaster response training for FCHVs and strong leadership from the public sector are crucial.
