Crataegus oxyacantha Extract as a Biostimulant to Enhance Tolerance to Salinity in Tomato Plants

Imane Naboulsi et al.

Summary: The study found that Crataegus oxyacantha extract as a biostimulant has a significant improvement effect on tomato plants under salt stress. The application of C. oxyacantha extract promotes plant growth and photosynthesis, increases the content of soluble sugars and amino acids, and reduces the damage of salt stress to plants. In addition, C. oxyacantha extract also enhances the activities of antioxidant enzymes, helping plants cope with stress.

Insight into Cistus salviifolius extract for potential biostimulant effects in modulating cadmium-induced stress in sorghum plant

Zoulfa Roussi et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the role of Cistus salviifolius leaves extract (CSE) in alleviating the toxic effect of cadmium (Cd) in sorghum plants. The results showed that supplementation of CSE restored the negative effects of Cd and increased biomass and pigment content. CSE also increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes, decreased lipid peroxidation, and increased the content of soluble sugar and amino acid. Furthermore, CSE showed promising effects in modulating carbon and nitrogen metabolism in sorghum plants under Cd stress.

Effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungus and the γ-Aminobutyric Acid Treatment in Nitrate Assimilation under Nitrogen Deficiency in Sorghum Plant

A. Kchikich et al.

Summary: The combination of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) treatment showed synergistic effects on sorghum plants, leading to enhanced growth and nitrogen uptake under nitrogen deficiency conditions. The activities of key enzymes responsible for nitrogen and carbon metabolisms were significantly increased in mycorrhizal plants treated with GABA, indicating the potential for improved nitrogen assimilation and morphological growth in sorghum plants.

Secondary metabolites as biostimulant and bioprotectant agents: A review

Reda Ben Mrid et al.

Summary: Increasing crop productivity while reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides is a major challenge that scientists are addressing by focusing on plant and microbial-based solutions to sustain the agricultural sector in a cost-effective and eco-friendly manner. Biostimulants and bioprotectants have gained interest for their ability to improve plant growth and yield, as well as reduce the impact of abiotic and biotic stresses. Microbial-based biostimulants and bioprotectants have been shown to positively impact cropping systems through various mechanisms, ultimately leading to better crop growth and yields.
