Dhinakaran Veeman et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the technology of using almond shell particles as potential reinforcement in making Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) filaments and evaluates the compressive strength. Through experimental design and optimization process, effective process parameters for the PLA/almond shell composite are identified and mathematical models for compressive strength analysis are established. The results show that the infill density and printing orientation have a significant impact on the compressive properties.

Synthesis and characterization of randomly oriented silane-grafted novel bio-cellulosic fish tail palm fiber-reinforced vinyl ester composite

Palaniyappan Sabarinathan et al.

Summary: Chemical silane treatment of FTP fiber effectively removes hydrophilic ingredients, improves the interfacial properties with a hydrophobic matrix, and enhances the mechanical strength of the composite. Silane-treated 30% FTP fiber-reinforced composite shows the highest tensile and flexural strengths due to increased chemical interactions between the fiber and the matrix. Silane-treated bio-FTP fiber is an excellent material for producing biocomposite-based products.

Kigelia africana fruit biofibre polysaccharide extraction and biofibre development by silane chemical treatment

K. Vishal et al.

Summary: After removing hydrophilic materials, silane-treated natural cellulosic Kigelia africana fruit fibre (KAF) was found to have strong strength. Silane treatment improves the compatibility of KAF with hydrophobic biopolymeric materials. Experimental results show that silane-treated KAF has a high cellulose content, high crystallinity index, and increased tensile strength, making it more viable for biocomposite reinforcement.

Preparation and characterization of Alfa fibers/graphene nanoplatelets hybrid for advanced applications

Ammar Boudjellal et al.

Summary: Alfa cellulosic fibers (AF) were surface-treated with alkali to improve the interfacial properties with graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs). The hydrogen bonding interactions enabled good dispersion of GNPs on fiber surfaces, leading to the formation of biomaterials (AF/GNPs). The efficient surface treatment of AF allowed for a uniform distribution of GNPs sheets on fiber interfaces, opening up new avenues for the production of biomaterials with fascinating physicochemical characteristics.
