Changes in soil bacterial communities with increasing distance from maize roots affected by ammonium and nitrate additions

Hao Qing Zhang et al.

Summary: The interactive effect of nitrogen fertilizer and plant roots affects microbial communities along with the root surface and bulk soil. Addition of NH4+ or NO3- influences soil bacterial diversity, with soil pH being a major driver of bacterial community assembly. Maize roots recruit different bacterial species under different N forms, leading to spatial patterns of soil bacterial communities at different distances from the root zone.

The preference of maize plants for nitrate improves fertilizer N recovery efficiency in an acid soil partially because of alleviated Al toxicity

Jia Lin Wang et al.

Summary: Maize plants prefer NO3-, which enhances the nitrogen recovery efficiency in acid soil by alleviating aluminum toxicity through increasing soil pH. Lime application further improves maize biomass and nitrogen recovery efficiency by reducing soil exchangeable aluminum concentration.

Dependence of Quantitative and Qualitative Parameters of Radish Yield on Contents of Ammonium and Nitrate Nitrogen in Soil Substrate

Peter Kovacik et al.

Summary: The experiment aimed to numerically express the dependency of radish yield parameters on the contents of ammonium and nitrate nitrogen in the soil growing medium during different growth periods. The results showed that radish yield was more affected by N-NO3- content in the soil substrate, particularly in the initial growth period, while nitrate and vitamin C content in roots were mainly influenced by the content of Nin in the soil substrate during the second half of the radish growing season.
