Lower abundance of Bacteroides and metabolic dysfunction are highly associated with the post-weaning diarrhea in piglets

Wen Ren et al.

Summary: Growing evidences indicate a direct connection between diarrhea and gut microbiota disorders in pigs. This study compared the microbial community, functions, and metabolites between healthy weaned piglets and piglets with post-weaning diarrhea to identify microbial markers associated with diarrhea. The results showed that the composition, function, and metabolic profile of the microbiota were significantly altered in piglets with diarrhea, and the reduced abundance of Bacteroides was closely associated with the diarrhea status. The study suggests that the lower abundance of Bacteroides and associated metabolic dysfunction may serve as microbial markers for post-weaning diarrhea in piglets.

Effects of Fat Type and Exogenous Bile Acids on Growth Performance, Nutrient Digestibility, Lipid Metabolism and Breast Muscle Fatty Acid Composition in Broiler Chickens

Shixia Geng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the effects of different fat types and exogenous bile acids (BAs) on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, lipid metabolism, and breast muscle fatty acids composition in broiler chickens. The results showed that feeding lard and BAs had positive impacts on broiler chickens, increasing growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and breast muscle fatty acids composition.

Impacts of weaning age on dietary needs of whey permeate for pigs at 7 to 11 kg body weight

Ki Beom Jang et al.

Summary: This study found that altering weaning ages could affect the dietary needs of whey permeate for optimal growth performance of pigs at 7 to 11 kg BW. Pigs weaned at an older age with a short early-weaner phase had a greater growth response to whey permeate intake compared with pigs weaned at a younger age with a long early-weaner phase.

Role of bile acids in liver diseases mediated by the gut microbiome

Jun-Wei Shao et al.

Summary: The intense crosstalk between the liver and the intestine plays essential roles in immune surveillance, nutrient metabolism, and more. The bidirectional interaction between the gut microbiome and bile acids influences metabolic pathways and inflammatory responses. This gut microbiome-bile acids-liver triangle plays a crucial role in liver diseases and potential therapeutic strategies are being explored.

Chronic intestinal failure and short bowel syndrome in Crohn's disease

Ayseguel Aksan et al.

Summary: Chronic intestinal failure, a rare complication of Crohn's disease, can greatly impact quality of life and treatment options include home-based parenteral nutrition and intravenous infusion. However, 60% of patients may need lifelong reliance on parenteral nutrition, and promising new drugs have brought new dimensions to therapy.
