Mahir Akgun et al.

Summary: This study focused on the cutting force (Fc) and surface roughness in turning of AA 6061 alloy with different cutting inserts. The results showed that the uncoated cutting insert performed the best under specific cutting conditions, with feed rate being the most influential parameter on surface quality and cutting force. Mathematical models developed for Fc and Ra presented reliable results with high coefficients of determination.

Nursel Altan Ozbek

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of cutting tool coating type and process parameters on flank wear and surface roughness in the turning of hardened 1.2343 hot work tool steel. The experimental results showed that the PVD TiAlN/TiN tool performed better under all cutting conditions. Feedrate had the most impact on surface roughness, while flank wear was most affected by the cutting tool.

Multiple optimisation of cutting parameters in milling of cryogenically treated Aluminium 6061-T651 alloy with cryogenic and normal cutting inserts

Gurcan Samtas et al.

Summary: In this study, surface milling was applied to the cryogenically treated Aluminium 6061 alloy using TiALN-Nano-coated cutting inserts. The cryogenic treatment showed a positive effect on minimum cutting insert wear. The most significant factor affecting surface roughness was the feed rate, while the most significant factor affecting wear was the cutting speed. The Grey Relational Analysis method determined the feed rate as the most significant factor affecting both wear and surface roughness.

Experimental comparison of near-dry and cryogenically cooled near-dry machining in wire-cut electrical discharge machining processes

Sureshkumar Myilsamy et al.

Summary: The research compared the wire wear ratio, material removal rate, and surface roughness of cryogenic cooled near dry wire-cut electrical discharge machining (NDWEDM) with the existing NDWEDM process. It was found that cryogenic cooled NDWEDM reduces wire wear ratio, increases material removal rate, and decreases surface roughness compared to the existing NDWEDM process, due to the increase in electric conductivity and effective spark strengths by cryogenic cooled wire.

Sustainable Electrical Discharge Machining of Nimonic C263 Superalloy

Renu K. Shastri et al.

Summary: Nimonic C263, a nickel-based superalloy, is widely used in manufacturing complex parts in the gas turbine, aircraft and automotive industries for exhaust sections. Traditional machining of this alloy is difficult due to its poor thermal conductivity, work hardening, and high strength properties. This study proposes an experimental investigation to explore the machinability of Nimonic C263 using different electrodes and evaluates the impact of process parameters on responses such as energy consumption, noise, material removal rate, electrode wear rate, surface roughness, and radial overcut. Analysis of variance and scanning electron microscope investigation are conducted to analyze the influence of each parameter and pre/post-machining scenarios. The study utilizes the PROMETHEE approach to convert multiple responses into a single response and further improves the results using a hybrid cuckoo search algorithm, showing an overall improvement of 6.02% in the responses.
