Effects of heat shock protein 70 knockdown on the tolerance of the brine shrimp Artemia franciscana to aquaculture-related stressors: Implications for aquatic animal health and production

Liqing et al.

Summary: Temperature, pH, salinity, and ammonia stress have adverse effects on the performance and well-being of aquatic organisms, especially those used in aquaculture. The induction of Hsp70 in these organisms improves their tolerance to subsequent abiotic stress. This study demonstrates the functional role of Hsp70 in stress tolerance using RNAi technology.

NMR Spectroscopy and Chemometrics to Evaluate the Effect of Different Non-Thermal Plasma Processing on Sapota-do-Solimoes (Quararibea cordata Vischer) Juice Quality and Composition

Rhonyele M. Silva et al.

Summary: Atmospheric and vacuum cold plasma technologies were applied to Amazonian sapota-do-Solimoes juice to evaluate their effects. Atmospheric cold plasma processing increased phenolic concentration and antioxidant activity, while vacuum plasma processing decreased phenolic concentration. Plasma processing did not significantly affect the juice's pH and total soluble solids content.

In vitro viability of L. Casei B-442 and fructooligosaccharides integrity in Amazonian sapota-do-solimo tilde es functional juice

Rhonyele Maciel da Silva et al.

Summary: Sapota-do-solimo tilde es juice can be fermented by Lacticaseibacillus casei B-442 to produce a probiotic and a synbiotic juice. The probiotic juice has a higher microbial survival rate and higher probiotic count after simulated digestion compared to the prebiotic juice. Lactic acid and acetic acid are the main metabolites produced in the synbiotic juice, while isobutyric and propionic acids have higher production in the probiotic juice.

Evaluation of purple onion waste from the perspective of sustainability in gastronomy: Ultrasound-treated vinegar

Seydi Yikmis et al.

Summary: This study investigated the production of vinegar using purple onion waste and the improvement of its nutritional properties through ultrasound technology. The ultrasound-treated purple onion vinegar showed enhanced antihypertensive and antidiabetic effects, as well as increased polyphenols and mineral content. Additionally, it had a lesser impact on volatile compounds and exhibited strong anticancer and antimicrobial effects.

Protective Effect of Natural and Processed Coconut Water by Non-thermal Technologies Against Oxidative Stress in Brine Shrimp (Artemia salina)

Thaiz Batista Azevedo Rangel Miguel et al.

Summary: Coconut water is popular due to its sensory, nutritional, and functional characteristics, but its short shelf life can be improved through processing technologies. Plasma and ultrasound-treated coconut water did not show toxicity to Artemia salina nauplii, while ozone-treated artificial seawater caused mild toxicity. All coconut water samples, including untreated ones, displayed a protective effect against oxidative stress.

Revisiting Non-Thermal Food Processing and Preservation Methods-Action Mechanisms, Pros and Cons: A Technological Update (2016-2021)

James S. Chacha et al.

Summary: The push for non-thermal food processing methods has arisen due to challenges with thermal methods, including high costs and changes in food nutrient components. These non-thermal methods offer benefits such as microbial inactivation, nutrient retention, and extended shelf-life, but continuous synthesis of scientific literature is necessary as research progresses. Current focus lies on the operational mechanisms and effectiveness of these methods.
