The synergistic action of cyclodextrin-based adsorbent and advanced oxidation processes for sulfamethoxazole removal from water

V Rizzi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal of sulfamethoxazole from water using adsorption on a cyclodextrin-epichlorohydrin copolymer and Advanced Oxidation Processes. The adsorption was efficient and fast, reaching equilibrium in just 10 minutes. The desorption process was achieved by raising the temperature. The use of Pulsed Light showed the highest efficiency in removing sulfamethoxazole. The procedure proposed in this work, which utilizes environmentally friendly adsorbents and light sources, is effective and easy to apply to water treatment plants.

Cyclodextrin polymers and salts: An Eco-Friendly combination to modulate the removal of sulfamethoxazole from water and its release

Roberto Romita et al.

Summary: This study validates the use of water-insoluble cyclodextrin-epichlorohydrin polymer for removing sulfamethoxazole from water and recycling the adsorbent in an environmentally friendly way. Results show that the beta-EPI polymer is capable of efficiently removing SMX with short contact times and easily regenerating without any loss in performance, providing economic and environmental advantages.
