Recent Progress in Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Performance of Porous Polymer Nanocomposites-A Review

Avinash R. Pai et al.

Summary: The increasing demand for high-speed data transfer technologies has led to more electromagnetic interference and pollution. Polymer nanocomposite materials with tunable microwave absorption properties and flexible structures have been proposed as potential solutions. This review summarizes the various strategies for fabricating 3D porous nanocomposites using conductive nanoinclusions with suitable polymer matrices, and highlights the use of novel 2D materials such as MXenes. Strategies for achieving ultra-low percolation threshold using environmentally friendly and facile processing techniques are also discussed.

Methodology for measuring the thermal conductivity of insulating samples with small dimensions by heat flow meter technique

Ismael Sanchez-Calderon et al.

Summary: Developing advanced, highly insulating materials for reducing heat losses in buildings is crucial. A new methodology for measuring the thermal conductivity of small prototypes of thermal insulating materials has been developed and validated in this study. The results demonstrate the accuracy of the self-developed method in determining the thermal conductivity of samples with small dimensions using a steady-state condition.

Effects of nanofillers on morphology and surface wetting of microporous polypropylene composite membranes

K. Bicy et al.

Summary: Microporous polypropylene (PP) nanocomposite membranes were prepared by melt mixing of polypropylene and natural rubber, followed by etching of the rubber phase. Nanoparticles with different shapes were used to study their influence on pore morphology and wetting properties of the membranes. The shape, properties, and active surface area of the nanofillers greatly affect the morphological, mechanical, and wetting properties of microporous PP membranes.

Foam Polymers in Multifunctional Insulating Coatings

K. A. Ter-Zakaryan et al.

Summary: The application of foamed polymers as one of the components of insulating coatings helps to solve the issues of energy saving and creating optimal operating conditions for buildings. The implementation of seamless insulating coatings, achieved through the use of low thermal conductivity thermal insulation and elastic foamed polymers like polyethylene foam, can reduce air permeability and create practically impermeable heat, vapor, and water barriers along the outer perimeter of insulated objects. Polyethylene foam shows properties such as low thermal conductivity, diffusion moisture absorption, and water absorption, making it suitable for various structures and operating conditions.

An overview of factors influencing thermal conductivity of building insulation materials

Le Duong Hung et al.

Summary: The efficiency of thermal insulation materials is influenced by factors such as thermal conductivity, ability to maintain thermal characteristics, moisture content, temperature difference, and bulk density. Other factors like airflow velocity, thickness, pressure, and material aging also play a role. Experimental investigations have shown a relationship between factors like density, mean temperature, and moisture content with the thermal conductivity values of insulation materials.
