Apolipoproteins in vascular biology and atherosclerotic disease

Anurag Mehta et al.

Summary: Apolipoproteins are vital structural components of plasma lipoproteins that influence vascular biology and atherosclerotic disease by regulating lipoprotein metabolism. Different types of apolipoproteins play different roles in lipid metabolism and atherogenesis.

Associations Between Genetic Polymorphisms Within Transporter Genes and Clinical Response to Methotrexate in Chinese Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients: A Pilot Study

Han Cen et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the associations between genetic polymorphisms within transporter genes and clinical response to methotrexate in Chinese rheumatoid arthritis patients. The results suggest that multiple genetic polymorphisms within transporter genes, particularly SLC19A1 and ABCC2, are closely associated with clinical response.

Pharmacogenetics of Direct Oral Anticoagulants: A Systematic Review

Johanna Raymond et al.

Summary: DOACs, such as dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban, edoxaban, and betrixaban, exhibit high inter-individual variability in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, likely due to genetic polymorphisms. Genetic testing can improve healthcare in cardiovascular diseases by reducing therapeutic resistance or toxicity, especially in antiplatelet agents, oral vitamin K antagonists, and statins. Studies on the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and systemic exposure variation of DOACs mainly focus on certain SNPs in CES1 and ABCB1 genes related to dabigatran, rivaroxaban, and apixaban, while research on edoxaban, betrixaban, and SNPs in CYP3A4 and CYP3A5 genes is limited and requires further investigation.

Apolipoprotein B and Cardiovascular Disease: Biomarker and Potential Therapeutic Target

Jennifer Behbodikhah et al.

Summary: Apolipoprotein B plays a crucial role in atherogenic lipoproteins, with two major isoforms: apoB48 and apoB100. ApoB concentration serves as a direct measure of circulating atherogenic lipoproteins, independent of particle cholesterol content, making it a more accurate indicator of cardiovascular risk than total cholesterol or LDL cholesterol.

Diagnostic Accuracy of the HAS-BLED Bleeding Score in VKA- or DOAC-Treated Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Xinxing Gao et al.

Summary: The HAS-BLED score showed moderate predictive abilities for bleeding risks in anticoagulated patients with atrial fibrillation, with similar or superior predictive ability compared to other risk scores such as HEMORR(2)HAGES, ATRIA, ORBIT, and GARFIELD-AF, and at least non-inferior to CHADS(2), CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc, or ABC scores.

Pharmacogenetics of Bleeding and Thromboembolic Events in Direct Oral Anticoagulant Users

Jaakko Lahteenmaki et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the associations between genetic variants and clinical outcomes in dabigatran, apixaban, and rivaroxaban users. The results suggest that ABCB1 variants may influence thromboembolic events in rivaroxaban users and bleeding events in apixaban users. Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed for a comprehensive understanding of the pharmacogenetic associations of DOACs.
