Novel and Specific MRI Features Indicate the Clinical Features of Patients With Rare Hepatic Tumor Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively evaluated the clinical records and MRI findings of nine patients with hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (HEHE). The study found that the multilayer ring appearance on T2WI, the vascular penetration sign, and the two enhancement patterns may be of great significance in the diagnosis and treatment of HEHE. Furthermore, the vascular penetration sign of hepatic vein branches may indicate extrahepatic metastasis.

MRI appearances of hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma: a retrospective study of 57 patients

Xiaolei Liu et al.

Summary: A retrospective study was conducted to analyze the MRI features of 57 patients with hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (HEH). The results showed that MRI features of HEH were correlated with lesion size, and the appearance of lollipop sign, capsular retraction, and target sign on both T2 weighted (T2W) and portal phase were relatively specific features of HEH.

Advanced epithelioid hemangioendothelioma of the liver: could lenvatinib offer a bridge treatment to liver transplantation?

Ilias Kounis et al.

Summary: This article describes a case of a patient with multifocal and metastatic HEHE who responded well to lenvatinib treatment before and after liver transplantation. Lenvatinib showed efficacy as a bridge therapy for advanced HEHE and also controlled the disease after late recurrence. It can potentially be used as an adjuvant approach to prevent recurrence in high-risk patients.

Treatment and Prognosis of Hepatic Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma: A SEER Database Analysis

Mohamad A. Chahrour et al.

Summary: Hepatic epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (HEH) is a rare tumor with limited understanding. Surgical intervention is associated with improved survival rates, while age and tumor size are poor prognostic factors. Collaboration between multiple centers is needed for further research and optimal treatment strategies.

Management Strategies for Patients With Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma Charting an Indolent Disease Course

Ilana R. Yurkiewicz et al.

Summary: This study reviewed 58 patients with EHE treated at Stanford University, finding that patients with soft tissue sites had the longest survival period, while those with lung and mediastinal disease had the shortest. Surgery was a common treatment method, while radiation and ablation were occasionally used.

Enithelioid hemangioendothelioma, an ultra-rare cancer: a consensus paper from the community of experts

S. Stacchiotti et al.

Summary: Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular sarcoma with variable clinical behavior and systemic involvement. Currently, there are no approved systemic agents specifically for EHE, leading to challenges in treatment selection for patients. In order to address this issue, a global consensus meeting was organized to define evidence-based best practices for the optimal approach to primary and metastatic EHE.

Activity of sirolimus in patients with progressive epithelioid hemangioendothelioma: A case-series analysis within the Italian rare cancer network

Silvia Stacchiotti et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated the efficacy of sirolimus in treating EHE, with most patients without serosal effusions experiencing prolonged stabilization. Serosal effusions were identified as an unfavorable prognostic factor associated with short survival, and sirolimus showed limited activity in this subgroup.
